you know things like
having bad promotion
internal struggle
artistic differences
living down a classic album
their mentor dying
bad record label
leagal troubles
being over shadowed by new artists
bad production
a drastic change in style
a changing industry
so tell me whom else fits this catagory?

wow 12 views and noone can name others that fit into these catagories?
hell its practicly the whole industry.where do i start? lol
guns-n-roses-internal conflict derailed them
the dayton family-can't stay out of jail
the old no-limit roster falls in all the above catagory
snoop dogg- cant get out of the shadow of doggy style
living color-they was black
phishbone-they was black
jon-b was a white soul singer whom could'nt apeal to other whites
the outlawz-2pac died, and his guidence of them wasn't fully realized
ice-t-political pundits ruiened his career
public enemy-ditto
pm dawn-i guess they was too ecentric for some
arrested development-it was'nt cool to be black and proud anymore, also the message of positivity, communal living, self esteem, self reliance and spiritual oneness has been so copied and diluted by lesser artists that "3 Years, 5 Months...." doesn't sound as revolutionary as it once did. Secondly, this LP was so popular and the band became so ubiquitous that the listening public quickly tired of them and missed out on a superior and brilliant followup (1994's "Zingalamaduni") and that is a terrible injustice. The standard set by this album has also made it nearly impossible for Speech to maintain a successful solo career, to most fans he will always just be "that guy from Arrested Development".
de la soul-too ecentric
digable planets-they changed their style from being white friendly and accessable to being afrocentric and exclusive.and there went their predominatley white fan base.(down the drain or to grunge music)
metalica-depends on who you ask i guess, people have blamed their problems on numerous things
outkast-this is HIGHLY debatable it depends on wich side of the fence your on really.some like the old out kast some like the new.its open to your own interpatation.
goodie mob-internal conflict
a tribe called quest-not being able to top their first 3 albums, internal conflict(i'm assuming),and a record label that would'nt suport their reunion album financialy
west cost rappers-more or less vanished when the west coast lost its mainstream appeal after the fall of death row
theres a whole shit load more i'm gonna list later stay tuned.

wu tang clan--can't live up to their classic material and everyone claims they fell off. One of the reasons might be because they did change their style and have become a bit mainstream (or try to be).

yeah they was gonna be on my next list
DRAGONSAMURAI
05-31-2005, 02:54 AM
a tribe called quest really ranned into the same troubles that bone has,BUT theres a huge difference in the 2 groups.tribe is more critically acclaimed and their first 2(and sometimes 3rd) albums are concidered essential ground breaking hip-hop classics.while bone is forgotten despite lasting longer, and out selling tribe(not that record sales matter)
as a matter of fact most classic albums outside the east coast gets over looked hell even albums just outside new york gets overlooked.

TLC yes tlc did have have the same probelms as bone, but the reason they survived them is because LaFace backed them up because they was valuable.where as ruthless seemed like they didin't give a shit about bone.reguardless of the number of cd's they was pushing.as if they was trying to stop bone from selling TOO MUCH.that way they didn't have to pay them so much.atleast thats bizzy's theory lol

tlc was just more or less lucky to still have their careers intact.they stayed around because they was a verry popular accessible urban pop group.bone doesn't fall in this catagory
i'm suprised nobody mentioned lucy pearl, destiny's child and en vogue
The-Scorpion
06-05-2005, 07:30 AM
destiny's child is still going strong more or less, though en vogue suffers from bad promotion, and lucy pearl is up in the air at this point.and the irony of it all is that dawn lewis is responsible for both groups problems

MC Eiht - He got fucked out of lot of money by Sony also he never got the promotion he deserved when he was there the same goes for when he was on Hoo Bangin / Priority also like Bone even though he made some classic songs and made good albums he doesn't get much credit and sadly now he had to go the independent route to release albums and still struggles to sell.
Spice 1 - Same as MC Eiht, however I don't think he ever had money troubles when he was with Jive.

It happens to a lot of artists. This is why the underground scene has grown into this great place to be.
Roger, being washed up is the after effect. You can't be washed up first. The analogy with ashes and fire is perfect.

Felix Hernandez

Outkast is a horrible example. Their last album was their biggest selling yet, got them the most critical praise (widespread, ie: not simply from the source and xxl), and got them grammys. How anyone can put them on the list is beyond me.
Add Coolio to the list.
