I'm heartbroken over this. My beloved Monte Carlo is gone. I know a lot of people didn't care for the styling, but I liked. It would never be confused for a ricer, or anything else for that matter. That was what made it cool to me. It was unique. Besides, with the Monte Carlo gone, the mid-size personal coupe segment is all but dead. The only thing that even comes close now is the Accord coupe, but I'd have to pass on it.
RIP Monte Carlo

^ what exactly is "a real monte carlo". Consider this my 05 SS stock. Would blow the doors off any stock SS from the 70's or 80's. The 87 SS only had 180hp. At the time that was a lot. But today that ain't shit. The base model LS has that much power. Yes rear wheel drive would have been nice(if you never have to drive on snow). But really if you know how to drive front wheel drive cars they can still perform well.

u cant compare the actual performance of two cars from different eras like that. Thats like saying: take the 15 grand or whatever you dumped into your 05 and invest it in the last real Monte (1988 SS) and see what happens.
RWD and V8, nuff said.

It amazes me how many people there are that are so closed minded when it comes to cars. FWD or RWD does it really matter that much? Yeah we all have prefrences but is one really better than the other. Unless you do some serious racing RWD is no more benficial than FWD. Especially with the modern traction control systems on todays cars.
I mean for the price how fast and performance oriented do you expect the car to be? The SS monte carlo even with FWD V6 already outperforms most of its competition.

take your modern traction control system to the track and see how well it compares to non traction controlled cars, you might be surprised. Yes RWD is better than FWD in almost every way, much better steering control and why the heck would you want the front wheels driving the car when momentum is shifting all the weight to the back when you accelerate?

Like I said unless you race your car(i.e. take it to the track) there isn't too much benifit to RWD. In normal everyday driving conditions(which is what 99.9% of the population use there cars for), RWD no better and in some cases worse the FWD. You take you your RWD car over a snow covered road and I'll take my FWD car and we'll see which does better, same with wet roads. I've owned many FWD and RWD cars and from my experience the benifits of RWD to my everyday use are minimal at best. SO no RWD is NOT BETTER than FWD. Usually the people who complain about FWD are the ones that don't know how to drive them.

if performance isnt important why didnt you just get a regular monte instead of the SS version. Also, The performance difference you see at the track is the same performance difference youd see on the street.
Mr Burns

^Have you actually read anything that I've posted? I NEVER said performance isn't important. I very much enjoy the level of performance my SS provides me.
The performance difference you see at the track is nothing like what you see on the street. I(like most people) don't push my car to it's limits on the street. I would at the track. Only an idiot would push there car enough on the street to be able to see the difference. Not only are tickets expensive, traffic is too unpredictable to be able to saftley push a car to it's limits.

thing is,u dont have to be at its limits to see the benefits of RWD in a performance application...........
Mr Burns
07-04-2007, 06:25 AM
^yeah if you don't know how to drive FWD. The diffrences aren't as great as you make them appear. If you aren't pushing the car to the limit, than the cars traction control easily makes up for any of the minor differences you keep pointing to.

LOL keep telling yourself that.
IMO
FWD = better for everyday use vehicles or if u live up north, more rain and snow.
RWD = better performance for racing
AWD = wins
Mr Burns
07-04-2007, 12:07 PM
^ I can agree with that.

I will keep telling myself that as I'm looking at your 2000 Audi TT in the rearview of my FWD V6 Monte Carlo.:)

thats because itll be parked on the side and ill be smoking you in my Galaxie, and it wont even be close. My audi is just my gas saving daily driver. I dont race that car at all.If i want i can chip it and go all out but i only need 1 money pit.
Mr Burns

my monte carlo isn't for racing either. just as the ones in the 80's weren't, but for daily drivers they are quick.
