look i had a wreck on the 30th, it wasn't a major but it also wasn't a minor wreck either. ok i need you guys help on finding out some info, this is the deal, my airbag symbol came on as if it had been deployed but the airbag did not deploy. ok now i called the honda place and asked them about it and they said oh it's based on how close u was sitting to the stearing wheel, how much you weigh, if u had your seat belt on and just sounded like bullshit. i think their trying to keep me from getting a lil $ from their bullshit not working. ok now my wife is 8 month's pregnant and was driving and hey it may have been a good thing that it didn't deploy but at the same time because it didn't it caused her to hit the stearing wheel and almost put her into labor. ok i looked at the owner's manual and seen nothing about why or why not the airbag would deploy. so can anyone find out info on this about a 03 honda civic ex

As much as I'd like to see you sue honda. I don't think they are bullshitting you. There are a number of reasons why the airbag wouldn't deploy. On newer vechicles (2000 or newer usually). Passenger weight, and distance from the dash/ steering wheel would effect weather or not the airbag would deploy. There are also other reasons. Such as the angle of the impact, the placement of the sensors within the bumper, your vechicles speed, as well as other things. When you get into an accident there is no guarntee that the airbags will always deploy. I hope that you and your wife are ok. If you are just be happy that the car allowed both of you to walk away alive and in good health.

ok but how do i know that it still wasn't a glitch and it was actually supposed to deploy?
also how could really know how far my wife was from the stearing wheel? because alot of people lean their seats all the way back but sit leaning foward.

airbag deploys depending on the force of the impact around how fast were u going?

like i said, around 35-40mph cause we were in a 45mph zone and the girl pullrd out right in front of us not even a full car length away so when we braked it didn't have enough time to slow us down from 45 to maybe 35

ok so u say around 45 i think u should have a good case then now only thing is i guess to prove that for sure u were going that fast cus at those speeds it should of deployed for sure.

ok now even if i can't prove thati was going that speed...wouldn't i still have a case seeing that the deploy symbol come on and is still on right now, that's still a defect right

im sure it is, if the symbol came on, do u have a lwayer, speak with him on that, speak to someone who knows a lot about cars and can see ur car and check it out, over here we can just speculate, but goin 45 hittin someone with the symbol comming on should have deployed the airbag, especially in a small car like that the impact is greater if u hit someone.

My only other suggestion would be to take it to an independent mechanic and see what he says. Maybe the airbag was faulty. But if I had to guess I'd say that pursuing legal action would be a waste of time. Automakers can always fall back on the disclaimer that airbags aren't always going to deploy in any given situation.
