do you feel that it should be regulated, or do you feel that it shouldnt matter how dark you go, and why?

I understand why they have the laws on window tint. What kills me is that you can get a ticket for having window tint that is too dark, but a lot of cop cars have some of the darkest tint around.

ther excuse is that they dont know if your some guy with a gun about to shoot a cop, but tint make a car look better & keeps it cooler inside...& if your in a bucket the hot chicks in there scion tc's cant see you

I understand why there should be laws, but I dont see a problem with window tint at all.

In Chicago you can tint out the back windows as dark as you want,I got 5% on my '89 towncar I didn't do the front cuz I get fucked with enough,But surprisingly since I got the backs tinted i was only pulled over once and it was for doing 85 on lake shore drive, not because of the tints,
But I could of tinted out the whole car with 5% including the windshield if I go to the doctor and tell them I'm worried about UV rays and cancer, then with the drs note you don't have to pay any tickets.
But i do way to many other illegal shit while driving to even bring that harrassment to me!
But I'm sure maybe other states might work like this.
RX note=Darkest tints you want!

actually several officers have lost there lives, when someone fired a weapon through a dark tinted window. So I'm not really sure that it is an excuse.

imo that may be the reason for the law, but its not a fair law. so cops died from tints...ok thats not good, however cops die from pulling people over on the highway and getting hit by traffic...are they going to make a cop fulling you over on the highway illegal too? i highly doubt it, and i can garentee there are far more cop deaths/injuries due to THAT than there are to tints...
makes me wonder if they really are concerned about the officers saftey

my country the law is 35% tints. i prefer the look of tints on just the back passenger windows. lots of cars come stock that way these days.

actually in the state of florida it is the law that when an officer is pulled over on the side of the highway, traffic must merge to the lane farthest from the cop

in texas you can have limo tint all around except the passenger and driver windows and the front ones of course, I got my trep completely limo tinted(not the front) it keeps the car cool, in texas you can only have 10% in the front two windows, I just crack the window a lil open when I roll by the biggie blues and they have yet to say anything about it...
word up though once you tint your car its never the same driving in a car with out tint, i feel like im in a fish tank and everyone see me...

what is it, 35% front side windows w/e you want for the rest right? (texas it is ) it's cool i don't mind but when i see these cop cars and decommissioned cars with 5%ers passing around it irks me.

hmmm, i think yes there should be a limit on front windows because you cant see whats happening in the car, its obiously a safety issue, but imo its to heavaly regulated. you get pulled over even if your tint is legal, just an excuse to search and stop you to find something wrong

^the way i see it though, is no one should be allowed to see inside your car to see what your doing...its none of thier business
Mr Burns
07-19-2007, 04:50 PM
^Yeah but the argument against that is that you are on public roads when you are in your car therefore your buisness on those roads is not private, so u have not right to privacy in that situation.

i think the dark ass 5% (or 95%) tint is for kids. I used to have it but would never go back to it. Something not as drastic looks MUCH more professional and is much safer.Have you guys ever tried to make a left turn from an intersection or street into a residential area at night? i almost killed a couple walking with a baby in the stroller, thats when i found out BAD IDEA.If you have extremely dark tint, its pretty much mandatory to drive around with the windows down at night. Also,i beleive tint is rated by the amount of light it lets in, i see a lot of people reffering 5% tint as 95%.

thats right. You basically give up your right to privacy when you go out in public.

i almost hit a girl infront of me when the sun hit my windshield and lit the dirt up, 35% (texas limit on front side windows) is enough to see well at night

you're correct, it is rated by the percent of light allowed in, so 95% would be the incorrect rating for super dark tint
thats right. You basically give up your right to privacy when you go out in public.
i understand that, BUT im in my PRIVATE car..
explain to me why its legal to have 5% tint in the back...of lets say a limo...or a suv...or station wagon...or any other long car... but not the front? there can be any number of people "ready to shoot a cop" in the backseat as well...its a stupid law with no merrit
Mr Burns

^I see your point that it may be a stupid law. But laws are made by politicans and they are elected into office by us. So bascially we've allowed this stupid law and like it or not now we have to live with it.

Thats a valid point, but do we know exactly why its illegal or are we assuming its because the cops are scared? cuz i dont know why its illegal. if its illegal because of the points I made, then that would make sense (dangerous at night) but if thats the case, they should only give tickets for it at night too.

exactly, this whole country is going to shit and will continue to do so. Laws are always being piled on as time goes on, you rarely ever see a law being taken off the books.

well from what they say here in CT its because of police protection...if they just said its a danger at night, id be find with it, becuase it IS a danger at night, ive driven in cars with tints and its almost impossible to see sometimes
as for the elected officials...thats true..but no one voted those guys into office because of thier tint plan you know what im saying? laws like that come up after the fact and when its too late, and sometimes you just have to take one for team (which is not fair imo)..because what if the guy who is going to enforce a tint law is the only guy trying to lower taxes or something else major
I dont think anybody should have lower than 20. it gets too dark at night for u to be able to see, thats just a safety issue not just aimed at cops, ur own safety.
Some might argue against that and say I live in a really sunny state, or i dont want people to see inside my car because they can break in and steal shit.
Well I live in florida were the sun actually cracks a lot of car dash and melts plastic, also Im by the hood a lot especially when I used to go to skool it was a block away and I never goit shit jacked. 20 is more than enough to keep ur car cool and protect u form the sun, its also not that easy to see through

If I have to roll down my windows just so I can drive at night it isn't even worth it. You live in Texas, come up here in mid january and roll down your window when it is -5 degrees so you can see at night....No thanks. I'll stick to a lighter tint.

I like window tint, makes it look fancy. :) I hate that you cant fall asleep sometimes cause the sun is too bright in the back or when u do fall asleep and you're at a stop light and u happen to open your eyes the person in the next car is peeking into your car wondering who else besides u is sleeping
