If I had one pitcher to choose out of ANY MLB pitcher...I'd take Johan Santana. I've been watchin' this guy throw for a few years now...and I knew he'd put it all together sooner rather than later...he has electric stuff, man. And Minnesota signed him to that extension for a very reasonable price, IMO.

Clemens
Hudson
Zambrano
Mulder

...just a few others.

lol I can't believe nobody mentioned Roy Halliday, he's among the top pitchers for sure... I dunno who is the best so far, it's hard to say because some good pitchers are being let down by their team...

Roy Halliday
Kenny Rogers
Mark Buehrle
A.J. Burnett - has some of the nastiest stuff around
Dontrelle Willis
The Rocket
Santana

Yup, Im a Twins fan, so I agree withg everything you said, been watching him for years too. Santana is lights out and cant be touched. I thought for sure the Yankees would try and contact him and offer 100 million or soo, but my Twins got him for 40 million over the next 4 years. GO TWINS

In all honesty, Clemens can't be touched,

It's

Clemens

Everyone else

There shouldn't even be a discussion. He has the best ERA in the 2nd best hitters park in baseball. And...HE'S FORTY-TWO FUCKING YEARS OLD. Insane.

...The Yanks couldn't communicate w/ him b/c he signed it as an extension. He was still under contract when he signed the extension, so if the Yanks tried to contact him...it'd be tampering. I feel ya, though man...Johan is great.

And I'm a Cubs fan :)

You guys are nuts, gotta go with Jon Garland and Mark Buehrle :)

Felix Hernandez

Buehrle might be in the conversation, but Garland isn't even close. Remember Esteban Loaiza? Exactly.

'eh, I doubt it, the reason for E-lo's success that year was his addition of the cutter, once he was figuered out. With Garland it's different, he's been close to being good for a while, but hasn't had the mentality to keep it together for the whole game, he always had that one inning, that would screw him over. This year he's some how acquired some balls and isn't backing down and keeping it together :-) Hell I'm just damned happy my Sox are the best team in baseball right now with a 9 game lead over the twinkies :lloyd:

I hope you're prepared for the White Sox to get bounced in the playoffs. If they're going to go deep into the playoffs, it will be because of Freddy Garcia and El Duque, not Buehrle and Garland. Pitchers like Buehrle and Garland might be great in the regular season, and help get their teams into the playoffs, but they're not overpowering, they're finesse pitchers. Come playoff time, those kind of pitchers falter, badly. Both Garcia and Hernandez are power pitchers, and have proven they can pitch well in the playoffs. Look at the Mariners in 2001 for a perfect example of this. All their pitchers were great in the regular season, but they were more finesse pitchers. Garcia was great come playoff time, everyone else was more or less eh.

I guess I'll worry about that when it comes to that, just to get to the playoffs is something that no one thought would even be close this year, so hell, I'm just excited for the this team to get that far, there's something different about this team, that most don't really realize, because they don't get a lot of pub, other than bad pub, but for those of us who do get to see 'em, it's something special going on. I guess we'll see what's gonna happen, I make no predictions :)

And to you cub fans -- doesn't it suck to split the series this year? no bragging rights for anyone, worthless series this year!

I agree with everything you said Castroy, but how can you say that Mark Buehrle isn't overpowering? Most of the time hitters don't stand a chance at the plate, if I'm not mistaken he just pitched another complete game shutout... He's definatly a serious condender for starting in Detroit next week

He's a great pitcher, no doubt. But he's very similar to guys like Jamie Moyer, maybe a Greg Maddux, although much closer to Moyer due to the heavy reliance on the changeup to set up other pitches. Moyer and Maddux have both been really poor playoff pitchers, as has Glavine, and other finesse pitchers. When you get to the playoffs, generally pitchers are going against the best of the best in regards to offense, so it's harder to baffle them.
