"The passion, the dedication and the willingness to work by the players is so appreciated," said Billick, who will continue to live in the area and is building a home on the Eastern Shore. "Even in this difficult season, they fought through it. My respect for the players -- every single one who has played for the Ravens in the last nine years -- is hard to articulate. They have my completed respect and admiration.
Billick added, "It's been a great ride with the Ravens and the fans here,"Great News (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/football/bal-billickhome1231,0,3641484.story?coll=bal_sports_hi ghschool_annearundel_util)
He will be missed as a person but not as a coach. With only one playoff win after winning the Super Bowl in the 2000 season, he had to go. Goodbye coach and 2008 is on.

2 to 3 years too late. Anyone looks like an offensive genuis when you have Moss, Carter and Robert Smith.

It's about time they got rid of him.
I agree. This was way overdue. But, the next coach is going to struggle too if they dont get a decent QB.
My how the QB position in the NFL sucks these days.

Here is why he was fired. Dilfer>Grbac>Boller>McNair. Grbac was a system QB. Boller was bred is the same system that Akili Smith and Joey Harrington were in. They turned out nice. Steve isnt over the hill, he is the hill. He is too big and not as fast as he used to be. I want to remember Steve as a Co-MVP and a hard as nails guy. Not a dude that looks like Shawn Kemp with a helmet. Dilfer was the best QB that guy had and he let him go. Troy Smith could be good if he gets a shot, I see alot of Brees in him. He just needs to work on his mechanics and pocket presence.

im not so sure it was the coaches fault i mean look what he has to work with. *cough steve Mc Nair*
a team can only be so good without a quarterback. perfect example is the Vikings, no QB= lack-luster season

Yeah but isn't it the coaches job to recruit good players/build up the team ? It's not like he hasn't had a chance to draft new QB's or sign a good free agent QB.
true true, but they had a few injuries on D which is thier life line since thier O sucks so they failed. 45/55% coach/players

I feel bad that he has to go out after a season mostly killed by injuries, but it was definitely time for a change.
About the not having the right QB thing, you gotta remember, some of Billick's first words in B-More were "Trust me Baltimore, I know quarterbacks."
I'm hearing there's a lot of talks about the Cowboy's OC, but that's a Billick-esque risk (bringing in the OC of a heavily talented offense). I'm hoping for the proven route, i.e. Cowher or Marty.

now that not fair.....
but i can say their divison is soft and thier schedule is effy. they arent going deep into play-offs they either lose to lol titans or indy no way the are seeing the pats.
LT is THE running back, Gates is THE tight end even if rivers chucks a few balls that way gates is gonna come down with it.
who do the ravens even have offensively to throw to thats reliable?

Todd Heap, but dudes been injured.
And we played a very good schedule, although we lost to Jags/pats/packers, but we beat titans/colts. So against playoff teams we were 2-3. However, when we played the patriots, our Offense and Defense were not playing well at all, same with packers (and we almost won if it werent for a last minute TD pass from favre). Jaguars our fantastic coach forgot how to call plays.
Anyway, this isnt a charger thread.
I think that Billick deserved to be fired. I was not a fan of his. Dilfer > any of their QB's (although Chris Redman sure is looking at least decent right now with atlanta). And even though i thought Troy Smith was a waste and very overrated in college, he just looks right. Something about how he plays just looks good. Maybe they have something at QB with him, who knows.

/thinks Marty would be a good fit in Baltimore :nod:That's right. With Willis as our RB......the offense will look good. We just need them to open the plays and not kill the clock and the game. That's what billick does. Losing to dolphin was enough for them to fire him. Not going for that 4th and 1 was a killer. It showed that he doesn't take risk. What I will miss is that he backed his players real well and talk trash to others if he could.
This season I will remember him with this reaction:
When that HGH player talked crap about our QB........Billick blow some kisses.......:-D.Goodbye coach.

^ Hey leave Rodney Harrison out of this. He may be a Patriot, but he's an all time Charger.

Word is Marty is going to be interviewed this week, and Cam Cameron and Mike Solari have already given word to Marty that they would follow him over if he gets the job. IMO, if this happens, and Rex Ryan stays (he's got interviews for HC jobs in Atlanta and elsewhere I believe), its pretty much the best coaching package that is attainable right now.
Our GM used to play for (and loves) Schotty, so it could definitely go down.

he got fired due to inconsistency
they would have one winning year then a losing year then another winning year and another losing year
he got fired beacuse of that.....everyone knew b-more would never have an offense, they aint have one when they won the superbowl
