Damn, after graduating from university, I am now faced with this decision..
Damn hard decision too..
I applied for a scholarship to do a postgraduate diploma in education so i can become a highschool science teacher..
I got a call on Monday and was offered the scholarship, so i took it.
I really think i do want to become a teacher, cuz i view it as one of the most rewarding careers a person could possibly have. I tutor people at the moment and i love it when they are like "Ahhhhh, so that's what that means" or "Ahhhhh, that's how u do it"
I love helping people out with stuff they don't understand, i'm pretty sure i have made the right decision, but one can never be 100% sure.
What do ya'll wanna do for a fulltime job?

I'd really like to be a teacher man. But over here, they make shit (30-40k a year) and I'm sorry but that is nothing. So even though I'd love to be one, I doubt I will unless their pay goes up drastically in the next few years. But I want to be a Dentist, and I'll most likely become one.

Yeh they don't make all that much over here either
starting salary is 50k, and after about 10 yrs ur only on 75k (that is ONLY ur salary, not including 12% superannuation n shit)
I mean if i did further studies, completed my phD n shit, with the right job i could easy make a couple hundred thousand.. (I seen jobs advertised in my area for 150k+) But, i just don't think i would enjoy it
At least teachers get like 2-3 months holidays

couldn't you complete your phD and get that 100k job for a while and when you're a bit older and really know your stuff and been one of them, then you can be a teacher who really knows their stuff!?
I don't know, just a suggestion. I had a teacher who was once an Accountant, but when she had babies, she decided to be a teacher because of the holidays and stuff
I dunno, do what YOU want to do, it's better doing something you love doing with less pay than something you don't but gives you more than enough

Sounds like u know what to do already. If u like teaching dat much do it.Dont worry about the $,cause after a while that aint gonna motivate u (its better to have a job that u like for small $ than to make alot in a shiity job that u hate).

a teacher is a respected (wo)man. Id suggest that profession if you truely feel that you have the ability to share your knowledge with the youth :). btw you still can work on special subjects, maybe write a dissertation or other essays on special subjects and become a Doctor, so you can teach on higher schools (f.i. university) and gain some extra money and reputation.
Id like to become a lawyer to answer your question in the first post :)
dont you go to super school for geeks?
j/k but judging from all that stuff you posted on nanotechnology and all that
settling as a teacher is kinda shocking
:kimo: i dont know what im talkin bout

Well... I think it was a smart move to take the scholarship and continue your education. :-) If you enjoy teaching so much, then... it might be the right path for you. The bonus is... you don't have to stop there. Science is one of the fields that you won't land you "stuck" in an occupation unless you have other life issues that prevent you from moving ahead in other directions. You can always teach for awhile, and go back to school later. Or you might find that you don't want to stop there and continue straight through.
The advantage is.... no matter what you decide to do, teaching is always something good that you can fall back on (especially if you love to teach in the first place). As long as your chosen path allows you to expand and advance (and it of course something you love)... then it really doesn't matter much, as long as you have the flexibility of other options that interest you. :-)

I think you should do what you really want to do. If you are following your calling thats what counts, money isn't everything. I'm trying to decide what I want to do now too. I think I'm going to go into a paramedic program or fire safety.

its obvious that you want to become a teacher from the way you speak about it! so i think you made the right decision!
although, i dont know how it is over in australia, but i think in high school you wont get to hear alot of: "ohhh thats interesting thats how it works" when it comes to physics, so maybe you shouldnt expect that  i dont know
but im sure everyone would love to have a bone loving teacher who calls himself kid pringle! :) and if you say you love explaining stuff and all than its perfect for you, so yeah i think you definatly made the right decision
i too, have to choose what i want to do in a bit more then one year, and i dont really have any idea :frown:
i hope everything works out well for you and good luck
