Plugging your mic directly into your soundcard (through 1/8" jack) is always going to have some sort of hiss, or electrical interference. Basically, the inside of your computer has all sorts of electrical signals and white noise inside of it..and when you plug your mic directly into your soundcard, you capture all of this.

With a decent mic and good mixing, the average person wont really be able to notice the hiss or buzz - but for the picky, who want the real studio sound, look into a USB Audio Interface. This is what I have. You plug your mic directly into your USB Audio Interface (XLR to XLR cable), and then your Interface directly into your computer (through USB). This transfers the sound as "data" and you dont get any hiss or white noise, at all. If you invest in this and a good mic - you will have very crisp, clear sound.

The TASCAM US-122 is a good USB Interface, which you can get for about $200. For a good mic, I suggest a Shure Beta 58A (about $160). Then all the cables, headphones, popit stopper. If your serious.. do your research, then buy.

How About You Record With Sony Vegas 5.0 Or Sony Vegas 4.0 And Then Apply Sony Noise Reduction 2.0... Cool Edit Also Takes Alotta Outta Sound Too. Usually Programs Which Record And Apply Effects In Real Time Work Nice... By The Way Sony Vegas 5.0 And 4.0 Are Professional...

if u don't want to have that hiss sound and stuff, instead of doing that USB stuff (not that it won't work) but u could always get a good soundcard, and a good condenser mic, and a preamp if u want, but if u don't wanna do that USB stuff, then get a good soundcard.... soundcard makes all the difference....

yeah, get a recording soundcard
or you could get that new Samson C01U mic if you want something cheap. It's a condensor mic that you plug into the usb port, so you don't have to go through the soundcard's converters

are you gonna use a condensor or a dynamic mic?
if you use a condensor you're gonna need a preamp to go with it

yeah, and cords will be kind of expensive if u get tha Condenser Mic and Preamp to power the mic..... But i would get tha soundcards that he suggested above.... same price as an Audigy, but better quality when recording......
