im not talkin bout the mic volume..im talkin bout the
hole PC volume..i used to be able to turn it down and mute it ..but now it dont work and i have
to go into volume control and play with that alot...its anoying..
That's what i'm talkin about, the main volume, not the mic volume. The reason
you can't use your keyboard volume control anymore is because you switched the
soundcard.

Another thing about recording,
make sure everything sounds right and looks right before recording, and once done, becareful
mixing down, I'd save the raw acapella as waves and keep that somewhere else, then start
editing your vocals, dont add too much effects (like reverbs and shit) too much, make sure it's
equilized and compressed and sounds good mixed with the instrumental, but remember, dont
think you can really master things with plugin's and shit, mastering is a skill that real engineers
have from years of experience, so if you plan on releasing an album, once done recording all
tracks, give it to a pro to master it.

so there aint no way to get it back??caz i mite get a
new keyboard soon anyway..will that fix it
?
Getting a
new keyboard will not fix it. I have no clue how to get it back if you can. For mixing down I
suggest getting a good amp with some nice monitor's. That shit will help alot getting you that
flat response to master ur tracks.

A pre-amp is for a condenser mic, a condenser needs
phantom power to work properly which is offered by most pre-amps. Most pre-amp's are
different, the one's I suggest for rap vocal's are tube pre-amp's. Some pre-amp's come with
compressors as well, that is also a nice feature. This is how it all hooks up, Mic to pre-amp and
then pre-amp to the line-in jack(s) on soundcard.
