Report: Mauricio “Shogun” Rua Signed by UFC, May Debut at UFC 72 (http://ufcjunkie.com/2007/05/22/report-mauricio-shogun-rua-signed-by-ufc-may-debut-at-ufc-72/)
The constant criticism about next month’s UFC 72 fight card (and its perceived weakness) may get a major and marketable reprieve.
According to the official Web site for Chute Box, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (16-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC), winner of PRIDE’s 2005 Grand Prix Tournament, has been signed by the UFC and may fight at next month’s UFC 72 event in Belfast, Ireland.

The no-frills message from chutebox-usa.com (http://www.chuteboxe-usa.com/article.php?id=88):
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has signed a contract with the UFC and may participate in UFC 72.

No additional confirmation of the signing has been reported anywhere else, so fight fans shouldn’t take the news as gospel quite yet.
Rua is widely considered one of the sport’s top light heavyweights, and should the 25-year-old make his way to the UFC Octagon, he’d be an immediate contender for Chuck Liddell’s light-heavyweight title.
Rua has fought for PRIDE Fighting Championships since October 2003 and has racked up victories over such notables as Quinton Jackson, Ricardo Arona and Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira.
UFC 72 is currently headlined by former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin vs. top contender Yushin Okami. The rest of the card has been criticized vehemently by UFC fans who were originally told that the event would air for free on Spike TV. Soon after UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com (http://www.ufcjunkie.com/)) pointed out that UFC.com had the event listed as a Spike TV broadcast (http://ufcjunkie.com/2007/05/09/ufc-72-no-longer-airing-for-free-on-spike-tv/), the information was removed, and UFC 72 was changed to a pay-per-view event with a $39.95 suggested retail price.
The event already has the usual nine rumored fights. However, just last month, UFC 70 featured 10 bouts, so it’s not inconceivable to imagine UFC 72 also having 10.
Regardless, a possible Rua fight would certainly make the night’s televised portion of UFC 72. Obviously, there’s been no news of a potential opponent, but it’s worth noting that UFC fighter Renato “Babalu” Sobral is one of only two fighters ever to defeat Rua (International Fighting Championship’s “Global Domination” in 2003).

lol, oops I put the wrong llink, I meant to link it to ufcmania's article.

/feels stooooopid

/notices Shogun would rape Babalu.

I wanna see Shoogun vs Rampage II so Rampage can avenge that loss and then a third fight so he can beat him again and then bring in gay ass Wanderlei so he can whoop that ass 3 times.

Rampage is a God. I like him equally as much as Tito, but it looks like they are already starting to hype up a showdown between them. Cause at first they both said they wouldn't fight each other, but then in a recent intweview Tito said he would fight Rampage for the title so then Rampage said he'd fight Tito. I don't wanna see that happen tho.

If its true, and its an exclusive contract with UFC Im gonna be sad. Pride is slowly being destroyed.

I dont know why anyone would be happy about it. I wouldnt want to see UFC or Pride die out, but if I had to choose one it would be Pride. I was always partial to Prides rules, and presentation. Plus i like the ring better than the octagon. Pride just felt more important to me.

I dont really like pride all that much, maybe it's the whole bein in japan thing that bugs me, I dunno what it is, I just like UFC a lot more and wouldn't mind seeing all the good pride guys come over to fight UFC. Although I do like the whole UFC v Pride super bowl once a year thing, I just don't know if I could wait a whole year to watch it.

I prefer UFC

obviously I was a fan way before TUF

Pride is good no doubt and at one point was better than UFC

Fertitta owns Pride assets, however that doesnt include the fighters contracts,
i dont see him re-signing all those guys, however i think he will sign half of them and mix that in with some UFC / WEC / WFA guys and have a new Pride, all the while signing new guys and maybe some old guys and eventually have Pride somewhat how it used to be

i think rampage had a good chance until shogun broke his rib

i do however think shogun would have won regardless of that

Jackson just doesnt have an answer to the muay thai clinch + knees

doesn't matter. until rampage proves otherwise, it's still 1-0 shogun by complete devastation. Chute boxe has rampage's number. No way can you justify "rampage > shogun". lol.

Yea seriously. how can you say Rampage > Shogun. besides Shogun already beating him, WAndy beating him twice, and Ninja arguably winning that shitty decision. Rampage hasnt been himself. What has he been doing? Losing a lot, and a big chunk of his Wins since Bustamante were very very very close and questionable decisions.

Its like people seeing the Rampage vs Chuck fight and saying OMG Rampage is gonna own him saturday! Nah, I want Rampage to win, but you cant base it on their last fight. Since then Chuck has been on a roll KOing everyone he fights, and I already explained Rampages situation.

Bottom line is Rampage hasnt seemed like a real threat for a while now. But like I said, hope he wins tomorrow.

agreed with everything you said

I have my own style called Whup That Ass Style =D

Alot of guys hit me real hard, after the fight i be like "damn that guy hit me hard", but I dont remember Chuck hitting me hard. I dont know maybe he hit me so hard that I FORGOT!
Rampage is the shit :haha:

by the way, i still see Rampages straight punches connecting to Chucks jaw  and then him mixing it up with the overhands and finally taking Chuck down
