One of the pro's in our gym brought in these packets that has all these military style work outs that's good for boxers. Strength & Conditioning type of stuff. My whole body gets a great work out from it. I've just been really busy with other things in my life right now but when I get back into boxing training I'm gonna hit it hard and make it a goal to start competing, probably in the amateurs at first. Anybody who's been to an amateur boxing event, you know they don't play lol. Fast pace fighting and hard hitting, that conditioning better be 1st priority in training.
Boxing is definitely an art and a science. We have a couple of people who compete in MMA and they stop in to train at our gym sometimes. I remember one guy said MMA is hard because you got a lot of different styles to worry about but boxing is more of a science because all you can do is punch. When you're doing something and it doesn't work anymore, you better adjust and figure out how to set something else up or change your game plan.
Sparring is by far one of the best work outs you can get in my opinion. It's way harder than running. When you get tired, you better not think the other person is tired too. You keep going until the 3 minutes is up. Imagine a math problem, once you think you got it solved, it adjusts and evolves into a new math problem. That's how boxing is. At least with thinking fighters like myself. If I do something and it works well but then the person adjusts to it and it doesn't work anymore, I have to adjust and set up other stuff.
Some people may think boxing only works out your arms or upper body because it's just punching but that's not true. If you fight in decent form and technique it works your whole body, well for me it does, especially in sparring. Your arms get heavy, your legs get heavy, your endurance gets heavy, you keep going until that round is over. It's either that or get your ass beat lol. Well the more experienced guys will know when to go lite and when to go hard with someone. Obviously you don't wanna go hard on a beginner, you wanna teach them.
